0912 1766 Wave at South Beach
South Beach is at the south end of Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Here we spent a couple of hours nosing around. I liked the contours of this watersmooth rock and expended some effort on it. Beach compositions are rarely static: you may be able to arrange elements in a pleasing way, but the next wave can change all that. At least this rock was solidly in place! The variables lay in what the water would do. I shot many variations: wave in, wave out, wave washing over the rock, wave receding... this is one of the better results, runoff from the previous wave creating streaks around the rock while a new wave begins curl and break. Unlike the big surf earlier that morning, these were gentle, lapping waves, only a foot or so in height.
